![]() ![]() Jemisin features the oldest god in the universe (the terrifying god of darkness, the father of all the gods, the one born before the beginning of time) as the mortal main character’s love interest. I’ve still never read the rest of the book, only their chapters, so it’s ok to skip (the novel is long) and I still go back and read Dianora’s chapters, just jealous of the emotion in the writing. This is one of the most emotional and stirring love stories I have ever read, with a similar diametrically opposed but yearning aspect that LotBD has. But Dianora is torn because she has fallen in love with him. Dianora is secretly a self-appointed assassin who infiltrated the palace only to kill Brandin, to undo the horrific curse he cast on her entire homeland of Tigana. Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay, specifically the sublime love subplot that takes place between Wizard Emperor-King Brandin and his favorite concubine Dianora.
